best area to stay

My husband and myself are planning to visit Maui for the first time from 17th-22nd February. As it is our first ever visit to Hawaii, would love some advice on where to stay whilst in Maui. We are in our late 20%26#39;s and enjoy going on day trips, good beaches and eating out mixed with some nightlife. As we%26#39;re from Ireland we would prefer to stay where the best weather is at that time in February, we need a break from rain!! Would appreciate any advise on accomodation also.

best area to stay

My and my boyfriend are also in our twenties, and we spent 7 nights in Kihei and then 7 nights in Lahaina on our holiday to Maui.

We spent time in Kihei so we were just across the road from great beaches and in a good place to visit Haleakala and also the road to Hana.

We then spent 7 nights in Lahaina so we were in walking distance of restaurants in the evenings and lots of small shops - its so much cheaper than here we went a little crazy buying clothes! You are also near the harbour for boat trips. However the beach there is not great at all and you have to drive to good ones so thats a negative. However we did do some surfing lessons there.

I have also stayed in Maalaea on a previous trip to Maui, which is in a really good position for visiting different places, but its very windy there!

We are going back to Maui again this year, and we have 8 nights there, so weve decided to go to Kihei for the beaches, as we%26#39;re also going to the Big Island afterwards where I think we will be doing more activities so we want to make sure we get our beach time in first.

Are you going somewhere else as well on your holiday as Im guessing youre not coming all the way from Ireland for just 6 nights? That could help you to decide. I.e if you were staying somehwere like San Fran or Honolulu on your way to Hawaii you might want to stay in Kihei for the laid back atmosphere and great beaches as a contrast, but if youre not going anywhere like that you might want to be in the town of Lahaina near the bars etc?

best area to stay

I would stay in Wailea as the weather is usually more predictable than in the Kaanapali and Kapalua areas.

If you%26#39;re going in February - I%26#39;d book soon as this is a busy time of year.

Enjoy!

West Maui or South Maui -- you will do fine with the weather. But February is a very popular time of year. Make your reservations now!

Rain on Maui is not like rain in Ireland. Average daytime temps in the 80s. Go to The Weather Channel and type in Lahaina (as an example). You can then pull up the average high and lows temps and the average rainfall for each month.

Thanks for all your advice. Will be travelling to Maui from San Francisco(via LA) so looking forward to it!!

I%26#39;d say Kaanapali which has great beaches and is close to Lahaina which has a lot to do.

If youve got a few days in San Fran first then I would advise staying in Kihei or Wailea, to make the most of Mauis beaches as youll already have had some time in a city.

Whereever you end up staying I would recommend staying in a condo, you%26#39;ll have more room than a hotel and chances are it will be far cheaper.

Have a look on vrbo.com

I would hurry as you havent got long til you go now!

I recommend Kaanapali Beach if you are only staying 5 nights. Its right in the middle of West Maui, just a short drive to Lahaina. You dont have to drive to go to restaraunts, luau or shopping, it%26#39;s all there and you have LOTS of choices of where to dine, drink, shop, hotel stay wonderful beach. I%26#39;s all right there when you walk out of the building. We stayed at the Whaler Condo%26#39;s. YOu can take boat trips from the beach, some snorkel and cruise companies will pick you up from the beach.

Another vote for Ka%26#39;anapali Beach. There are many great hotels/condos along the beach, and with Whaler%26#39;s Village being right there, you%26#39;ve got restaurants and shopping options that you can walk to. Plus, Lahaina is only a 15 minute drive (whereas Lahaina is a good 45 minute drive from Wailea). For only 5 days and first-timers, Ka%26#39;anapali Beach is a great choice.

Kaanapali would get our vote. YOu can shuttle into Lahaina for more shopping and dining if you want. We love the Sheraton! It is oceanfront on the best part of the beach. Their pool and pool bar are also oceanfornt. The grounds are very nice and are not crowded. We rented a beach cabana that seats two for our being lazy on the beach days.

The resorts and condos on Kaanapali beach are linked by a paved beachfront path. It is very convenient to stroll down the path to dinner at Whaler%26#39;s Village.
