Hi everyone,
i am planning our honeymoon We are spending a week in Kauai after a hectic 3 week USA mainland trip and we want a great end to our trip
If someone can answer my questions I would be very grateful
We are late 20%26#39;s this is what we are after
a good beach (walking distance from hotel), good pool, comfortable but not overly expensive rooms ( approx $200-$250 p.N) and to be relatively close to range of resturaunts and bars etc (walking distance if possible but short drive is fine)
Currently booked into the marriott Resort %26amp; Beach Club Lihue, beach and pool look great we got a good rate.Any other hotels we should consider ?
i have read it is rainy in March up North should I consider South?
i have also read the beaches are nicer in the North true?
how long does it take to drive from North to south if we want to chase the sun?
thanks for you help it is greatly appreciated
Honeymoon March 08 Couple of Questions
I think you are on the right track. The Marriott is nice. I%26#39;m not crazy about the beach there though. Too murky for me. Great pool and super close to good restaurants. You do get a lot of cruise ship people at that beach. Poipu beach is much nicer. Might want to check The Sheraton in Poipu. Great beach. Hyatt is out of your range.
March can be rainy on the North Shore but you never know. 2 years ago it was awful (like last week) but last year was lovely. I went both times. It takes 1 hour from the Marriott to get to Princeville. 1 and a half from Poipu. The beaches are beautiful on the NS but it will still be rough. Look into Hanalei Bay Resort (summitpacific.com) or you MIGHT get a super cheap rate at The Princeville if you are lucky. They will be starting their remodel soon.
I think the Marriott is a good fit and you should enjoy it. Go try Dukes next door.
Congratulations.
Honeymoon March 08 Couple of Questions
G%26#39;Day !
If you have a good rate at the Marriot in Lihue, you have made a good choice. The beach area is very nice, as is the pool, and they have a couple of our favorite fun spots...Dukes Canoe Club, and the outdoor tiki bar near the pool and the beach.
The beach is near Nawiliwili Harbor and the outlet to the Huleia River. If we have been having rain, even up in the mountains, the water at the beach can be murkey and stirred up. If the weather is good, the water can be quite nice. Lately, it has not been too good due to the run off from our storms.
Snorkeling is about zero here, even if it is clear since there is no reef and it is open. Surf lessons, and kayak rentals are available right there.
Another place, on the south shore, that you might check on is Poipu Kai, ( www.suite-paradise.com).
Great condos, with very reasonable rates, walk to poipu beach, your own semi private pool, and a few minutes drive ( 5 to 9 minutes ) to lawai beach, spouting horn, horseback riding, a nice and easy hike, ATV tours, Old Koloa Town, etc. Plenty of restaurants, and shopping. Yet, still peaceful and does not feel like stip malls.
However, you can stay at the Lihue, Marriot, and drive to poipu in about 20 minutes. And, if it is sunny up north, just jump in the car and drive up to those tahiti like surroundings. a few minutes less drive from the marriot, than the poipu area.
After all that, you might want to keep it simple and do as you suggested....';CHASE THE SUN ! '; No worries.
Cheers !
Denny
