Aloha,
My husband and I will have a 4 hour layover at the Honolulu airport on our way to Kauai. It%26#39;s not enough time to get to Waikiki, but is there anything close by that we could visit?
If all else fails, I%26#39;m sure I can find my favorite Kona Brewing Company products in an airport bar. :-) I%26#39;m hoping to find something a little more... entertaining.
Thanks.
HNL layover... any recommendations?
Yeah, it%26#39;s kind of frustrating to be stuck in an airport for that long. On every trip, we%26#39;ve had a long layover in HNL. It%26#39;s usually ~3 hours, so we%26#39;ve hung around the aiport. The time has surprisingly gone by quickly. We usually have a bite to eat (and double Mai Tai%26#39;s) at the bar/grill that I think is called ';City Grille';. It was under construction in November, but should be up %26amp; running now. Then, there are numerous shops to browse. You could also bring a good book/magazines or a portable DVD to watch a movie while you wait.
With four hours, you may have time to venture out, but then you%26#39;d have to mess with transportation to/from and you may end up rushed trying to get back on time if there is traffic. The HNL airport is interesting with the open air breezeways and views of Diamond Head in the distance. There are also some outdoor paths and koi ponds on the ground level to stroll about. Not a bad place to get stuck for a few hours! :)
HNL layover... any recommendations?
Thanks... you said what I figured. We%26#39;ll plan on having a few mai tais and enjoying the view for a few hours. There are worse places to be ';stuck!';
Mahalo!
alliqeek .... don%26#39;t know why and maybe the question of who was your travel consultant, there is no reason for you to layover 4 hours in HNL when they are hourly flights on all major interisland carriers.
If you are arriving into HNL and have 4 hours to sit around, go immediately to the interisland airline ticket counter on the airline that you are booked to Kauai. Ask if you can be put on an earlier flight to Kauai. Normally, if there is available seats, the airline will board you at no extra cost. Now, the problem is to ask if your bags will be on the flight. If time permits the ground crew to transfer your bags, rest asure that your bags will arrive on the same flight.
It is different travel from Hawaii and connecting from the neighbor island where domestic flights are numbered and time connection is important.
Hope this helps .... ';Live Aloha';
Thanks... we booked the trip ourselves (no travel agent for me, since I like doing that stuff on my own) and our flight ended up being changed and now we%26#39;ll arrive HOURS earlier in HNL than we%26#39;d originally planned. We%26#39;re flying from BWI to HNL on one carrier (Delta) and will fly from HNL to Kauai on Aloha.
Does Aloha allow you to change flights w/o being a premier member of their FF program? We tried last year on Hawaiian to take an earlier flight from HNL-Hilo and were denied because we weren%26#39;t Hawaiian FF members.
Mahalo again!
alligeek .... here is what I would do. Not knowing the reason to who cancel or changed the first reservation, I would call Aloha Airlines reservations and give them your story and ask if they would allow you to travel to Kauai earlier and at the same time, if the changes cannot be made, ask them what the change fee will be for you to get on an earlier flight. If you don%26#39;t get the change, wait until you arrive into Honolulu, then, go over to the Aloha Airlines ticket counter and ask if it is possible for you to get on an earlier flight. If seats are available, you on your way.
Good luck ....
