So 3 of us, all mom%26#39;s getting away from life for a week, will be coming in 20 days to stay in Princeville!
2 of us are quite fair skinned. Do we attempt doing a spay-on tan? I%26#39;ve heard that it ';melts'; away once you are in the humidity.
For the other one who likes to lay out, and has the skin to...Are people really sunbathing during this time of year? And where? Poolside or beach?
Any opinions? What are your stories? I%26#39;m sure there must be some good ones ;)

Sunless Tanning-worth it before the trip?
There%26#39;s been a lively thread on this subject the past month you may want to review. Strongly recommend you ask your doctor as there%26#39;s a great deal of misinformation floating around on this subject.
Sunless Tanning-worth it before the trip?
I honestly don%26#39;t see a necessity to use sunless tanner...it does not prevent you from burning nor does it create a %26#39;base tan%26#39; since it more or less dyes your skin. If you want to use it to feel tan, then go right ahead- its not going to affect your skin in any unhealthy manner (unless you have some sort of reaction, which would be a whole different story).
That being said, I%26#39;m not sure how much sunbathing is going on at Princeville this time of year, but rest assured that I just spent yesterday and today at the beach, soaking up some much needed rays. Mind you, I was on the west side of the island, which is over an hour from the North shore, but its still a viable day trip option....
Many of the pools on the island are not heated- just an fyi!
Just bumped up the thread ';Fake Tan'; for you.
It is true that the spray- on bronzing will not help you in not getting sun burn. I have not heard of any ill effects but checking with a medical professional as to any bad skin reactions reported would be a good idea.
Even tho it is winter in Kauai, we still get some sun when the oportunity comes during hikes, or like today we went to Kalapaki beach. Very pleasant, some sun, and some passing clouds. No burning, but we kept it reasonable as far as time went.
I know that you cannot do this, but I would prepare for our hawaii vacations by trying to get an hour to 1.5 hours of sunshine per day. Did not burn, and did give me a base for our kauai visit.
In all of our kauai visits, I did not burn, but Erica would warn me to put on a shirt after a while, as we were always out doing something like snorkeling, hiking, biking, or kayaking, taking Napali trips, etc..
During your visit here, If you pick your days, even tho the sun is not like summer at this time, you can still get some sun and some tan. A good sun block might be in order to prevent skin damage....and watch how long you are subjected to the sun%26#39;s rays.
With years of being in the sun on a pretty continuous basis, I do visit the dermotologist every few months. The price of living and playing and working where the sun shines. I accept that, and take care of it.
On kauai, at least for Lihue and Poipu, we are seeing plenty of people at the beach. Some are getting sun, others seclude themselves in shade. Most are from areas where they are not in the sun this time of year and are sensible about how much sun they get.
Yes, it is not as strong as summer, but you can get a burn, but best to take it easy and gradually work on that tan. If the M.D. Ok%26#39;s the spray, and that makes you feel good not to not shimmer and blind the kauai populace with reflected sunlight...go for it.
Still remember your sun screen, and limit your time of exposure. You ladies will look great, maybe get some tan, and also not harm yourselves.
Just check out any possible problems with the bronzing. Perhaps a localized alergic reaction. Back on the mainland, I had friends who went to the tanning salons for the spray....no problems for them.
They wanted to look tan, and not be subjected to the ultra violet skin damaging rays.

Here%26#39;s my two cents worth on sunless tanners before going to Hawaii.
I am lilly white. I burn easily and have had a skin cancer removed from my shin. I can%26#39;t stay in the sun too long, but I don%26#39;t want to look white and pasty in those cute Hawaiian clothes I spent a fortune on at Tropical Tantrums! I%26#39;ve done the spray on tan a few times and my daughter does it as well. The other posters are correct that it can give you a false sense of security and you still need to protect yourself from the rays, but you%26#39;ll sure look good arriving at the airport. It has never ';melted'; on me, but the ';smell'; does get a bit stronger in the sun.
Friend%26#39;s of mine are in Princeville right now and the weather has improved a lot. They are at the pool and the golf course so things are looking up after these terrible rains allover the island.
If you want to pre tan, go for it. If you want to spray tan just protect yourself when in the sun. Also remember that even in cloudy weather you can burn. Those days of baby oil all over our bodies are over. Oh if I only knew then what I know now..........
Does the salt water or pool water deminish the appearance of spary on tans?
If my memory serves me I think it did last as long but I wasn%26#39;t really sure why. Maybe that%26#39;s why.
You are all so great, thanks for looking out for my skin. I am aware of no SPF in any/most of these lotions. Honestly, I think we are thinking of going tanless lotion because we don%26#39;t want to feel out of place and we want to feel like we look good-Make sense?
';If the M.D. Ok%26#39;s the spray, and that makes you feel good not to not shimmer and blind the kauai populace with reflected sunlight...go for it.';
kalapakidooley, I Appreciate the understanding that you have for us fair-skinned!! It made me laugh because that is exactly what we are worried about!
Ahhh...no heated pools, didn%26#39;t know that one. Good heads up! So are people swimming during this season?
