Inter-Island Flights - Security

How much time before the flight should we arrive at the airport for an inter-island flight on Hawaiian Air? As of now we are getting picked up 2 hours before the flight, this includes travel time from the HHV to the airport. Is this enough time?

Thanks again for any help.

Inter-Island Flights - Security

I was just at the airport this weekend and I think 2 hours is fine. Anything more and you will probably be sitting around for a while.

Inter-Island Flights - Security

I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s enough time as you have 30-40 minutes drive time in there.

They want you there two hours before the flight, this helps them get everything screened and on the plane. If everyone comes an hour before they won%26#39;t have enough time.

We tend to think we got there too early whenever we sit around and wait after clearing security. What we forget is that the lead time we gave them helps ensure the plane takes off on time.

Hawaiian terminal is not as busy as the United/Aloha terminal, so that%26#39;s a plus. If you do web check in then you can come to airport with boarding pass in hand and just hand your checked bags to the Hele On attendants, very quick. Then all that%26#39;s left is carryon security checks.

What about ';GO!'; airiline and ';Island Air';? From what I hear these planes are pretty tiny, so I have a hard time understanding why you need more than an hour at the airport?

Thanks in advance!

This MAY be a dumb question, but I last flew to Hawaii before 9/11. (so obviously, I need to have Maui rum or local wine shipped home, grrrr!) If I check in at LAX and have a flight to Hilo from HNL (on Aloha), can I not check the bags through? I know there%26#39;s an ag inspection, but doesn%26#39;t that happen outbound?

I arrive HNL 11 am and fly to Hilo 2pm, is that enough of a connection time?

Thanks for all your help!

I have never been at the airport 2 hrs before for interisland flights ... I usually give myself two hours from Waikiki to get to the airport, return the rental car (usually driving around to try and find the crazy rental place) and get to the terminal. Haven%26#39;t missed a flight (or even thought I might) yet.

I think you are OK. You don%26#39;t have to go through AG - because you are still in the Islands. Inter-islands are pretty easy-going about boarding.

But do check -- what time of day are you traveling to the airport? If it is heavy rush hour on a weekday, I%26#39;d add another 15 minutes.

And who is picking you up? A taxi that will take you right to the airport or a shuttle with more stops?

90 minutes is fine for interisland ... it does not take 90 minutes if that%26#39;s when you arrive. If you arrive later with the other people cutting it close it can be a crunch.

Your ticket requires you to check in a certain amount of time before the flight. Check your ticket. That can be a web checkin or at airport.

If you do not check in on time, they can give your seat away to someone who wants one if the flight is full or to a standby person.

This has happened to one of my family members who always cuts it too close. So pay attention to getting checked in, one way or another, and if you don%26#39;t have assigned seating, and you are late, expect to sit in the back of the plane.

The time to get to the gate has little to do with the size of the flight / plane. Everyone goes through the same security screeners, big flights and little, and if your flight leaves at the same time as a full flight on a big jet, you%26#39;re in a long line. Timing is everything!
