i think it is a helicopter ride to the big island from Oahu. the price is $199 a person. i saw this on roberts hawaii website. if i am reading this right you fly from Oahu to the big island then take a guided tour to the volcanoes then fly back to Oahu. anyone heard of this?
One-Day Hawaii Volcano Special tour
Yes, we did this trip in 2005 with some friends. We paid around $250pp back then, so the special of $199 is good.
You fly from Oahu to Hilo with Aloha Airlines. Pick up times from Waikiki hotels are early (about 4.30am) and you will arrive at Hilo about 7am. Your driver will take you to Rainbow Falls on your way to VNP, then spend the majority of your day at VNP exploring all the different sights. Lunch is available at Volcano house, you can either have the buffet lunch (about $15) or snack food from the cafeteria.
On the way back to the airport you stop at the Orchid Nursery %26amp; macadamia nut factory.
I think from memory we got back to Hilo airport around 5.30pm and flew back to Oahu at about 6.30-7pm. By the time you get back to your Waikiki hotel its around 8pm.
It is a big day, but worthwhile. It certainly gives you the opportunity to see another island without having to worry about driving yourself etc.
