Where exactly is 'Baby Beach' - end the controversy?

Settle an ongoing argument all you Maui buffs out there.

Baby beach is one name, but more than one location - ??

Some apparently call part of Baldwin Beach on north shore, the east end of the larger beach area, by the name Baby Beach. We heard that area is popular with families since it is protected from big waves by a reef located just off the beach [right before Paia on the Hana Highway; 5 mins. for main airport; no facilities available].

Some condos on west Maui in the Lahaina / Ka%26#39;anapali area have also named their beach, Baby Beach. The west Maui one also has a small reef offshore that protects this white sandy beach from surf and currents and is reported to warm the shallow water to bath temperatures. There are several lodging options on or close to this specific beach with the name of Baby Beach in their lodging titles.

And we know there is a ';fake'; baby beach near the pools at the Grand Wailea Resort in south Maui ... where they trucked in sand next to a shallow pool.

So is there a REAL Baby Beach?

From what I heard, it was the one by Paia, and that was from the tour guide when we ended our bike ride there, but I doubt that is the offical word.

To add to the confusion...I%26#39;ve heard Keawakapu Beach (near Mana Kai Maui in South Kihei) called a baby beach -- just not with capitals. It%26#39;s gentle and has sandy-bottomed shallows.

We went to Baby Beach in Lahaina in June. It is on the north end of Front Street- I forgot the little street you turn into. It is in a residential area- (some big new homes and some small cottages that need serious repair), there are NO public bathrooms, no snack shack and only a couple garbage cans that were totally filled. It is great for baby%26#39;s and toddlers since it is totally shallow, protected by reef, very mild waves. We probably wouldn%26#39;t go to it again because of the no bathroom factor, but it%26#39;s good for little ones.

It%26#39;s also called Pu%26#39;unoa Beach- pg. 159 Maui Revealed

What ';controversy?'; Must we be so dramatic?

Baby Beach is in Lahaina, Baby Baldwin Beach is on the *west* end of Baldwin Beach and any other sheltered beach is a baby beach.
