vrbo.com - Maui

Hello! My fiance and I are starting to plan our honeymoon for next year, we%26#39;ll be traveling 9/29-10/6. We have looked at some hotels in Maui and like the Sheraton the best and from the forums I%26#39;ve seen you can get a pretty good deal by becoming a rewards member.

However, we have also been looking at rentals on VRBO.com. Does anyone have any recommendations on rentals? They make me a little nervous, they seem less reputable than the big hotel chains. We want to have a pool and be on the beach. Any suggestions on hotels/rentals are appreciated!

The Mahana is a nice alternative to a hotel. It is oceanfront with an oceanfront pool. It does not have restuarants, a fancy pool or pool bar. The beach is nice for strolling and looking at, but you will need to go up or down the beach a bit for a swimming beach.

We love the Sheraton! It is on the best part of the beach and within easy strolling distance of restuarants, bars and shopping. The pools are nice and relaxing. They have a free shuttle into Lahaina so that you don%26#39;t need to drive. We are looking at the Mahana as a different experience, but still keep talking about how wonderful the Sheraton was. I don%26#39;t know which will win for our next trip!

For a honeymoon, I would take the Sheraton if you have the $$$. Do join Starwood fpr better deals. We booked through Costco which worked well for us.

Have you looked at the Ritz in Kapalua? It%26#39;s being refurbished now and should be looking wonderful by next September. There are also lovely villas in that area.

If you decide on a condo, do rent through vrbo. That way you see exactly what you%26#39;re getting and won%26#39;t be assigned to a room or unit at random when you arrive. Hotels and rental agencies have lovely lodgings and some dogs that they also have to sell. You want something lovely!

In South Maui, the Wailea area has several 4-star resort hotels and many quiet and deluxe condos, too. I understand the appeal of a hotel, but a condo gives you additional space, a 2nd bathroom and private lanai, as well as a kitchen for whatever use you make of it.

We rented Bay Villa 612 from a lady named Angie in Kapalua. We loved it. It was so beautiful and private with amazing views, yet it was a short drive to anything we wanted to do. We had no problems with the rental and it was better than the pictures led us to believe.

We have also stayed in two other places in Kapalua that we rented through Sullivan properties. These were very nice also. Have a great honeymoon. Michelle
