Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
Well since I%26#39;ve been sick in bed most of this week -- I not only missed narrating at the Hyatt -- but the ';investiture'; ceremony of the Royal Court opening the Aloha Festivals for Kaua%26#39;i was held at Seaview Terrace at the Hyatt (where we do torchlighting ceremony)
on Thursday. This was a ';first'; for Kaua%26#39;i since it is traditionally done in Wailua, the seat of the ali%26#39;i of Kaua%26#39;i. I%26#39;m sorry I missed it!
I like this from the paper ';The lounge bar was open during the ceremony, but Burgess said in respect for the chanting involved in the protocol, no blender drinks would be available'; -- boy, how many times have we (Leilani and I) requested the same thing for our torchlighting ceremony -- they actually did it for about a month a year or so ago, but it was quickly dropped -- too many guests ordering blended drinks to stop for 10 minutes during the ceremony.
Since our torchlighting ceremony is hula kahiko (ancient hula) it is something to be treated with much respect -- sometimes it is hard to do that when I%26#39;m trying to shout over the blender from the bar!
Check out Kaua%26#39;i Aloha Festival 2007 on the web for all the upcoming activities and events -- I especially recommend either the composer%26#39;s contest or the hula competition -- done in conjunction with our Mokihana Festival!
Just some into to throw out there!
Malama Pono,
Janet
