Flying into Maui

I have heard that the airport near Kaanapali is very small with limited service and no car rental agencies. Is this still true? Any advice regarding rentals and airport service from Oahu greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The airport is small, but there are several car rental agencies. Just use airport code JHM when you are searching for a rental.

We are renting from Alamo in November, and have a great rate on a convertible using a coupon from the Entertainment Book.

I rented from ';Word of Mouth'; car rentals - not sure if they are still there or not. I liked them because they rented slightly older cars (3 years, Nissan 4-door) so you didn%26#39;t feel bad if you got sand etc in the trunk from all your gear. Very good rates, and you didn%26#39;t stick out like a tourist sore thumb with all the red Mustang convertibles from Alamo!

Hmmm, maybe I should see if I can get another color!!

A tourist is going to look like a tourist no matter what car they are driving !!!!!

Mambo -- Yes, the airport near Kaanapali is very small. There are car rental places, but their selection is relatively small as well. The planes that fly in are small, and if you are considering this - be sure to check into their baggage weight restrictions.

The vast majority of folks fly into Kahului. Full service airport, lotsa flights, cars, whatever you need. Probably cheaper, too.

Small airport, small prop planes but very convenient....

Car rental is ok if you do nor arrive at off hours, they can be closed...

Regarding older cars, as long as the cars are maintained properly and ';debugged'; occasionally, it should be OK. (cockroaches can invade your food that you place in the car or can surprise you while driving)
