Getting Married...

Hi Therre,

Just wanting some advice on getting married in Waikiki...a lot of companies offer ceremony packages, but they don%26#39;t offer the reception or dinner afterwards.

Can someone recommend either:

1. a reputable company that offers both ceremony and reception packages (very small...perhaps 10 people)

or

2. a great restaurant suitable for a reception, with a Hawaiian feel and music.

I love Dukes and would love to have the reception dinner there...but do they do this?

Cheers

Try contacting your hotel or other hotels in Waikiki. Many have event coordinators/managers, which include weddings.

Getting Married...

Yo would be surprised,

A lot of local families actually have Chinese food at reception.

AussieBecs, congratulations on your forthcoming wedding :0) We were so glad that we chose Hawaii for our wedding and I know that you will be too. Check out my previous posts for recccomendations for wedding companies. You could also have a look at the Hawaii board on theknot.com and vendor reviews on Hawaiibridezilla.com.

Hi Bec,

We got married on Oahu in 2005. I researched a few wedding companies and decided on Penny %26amp; Wayne from Hawaii Weddings.net (www.hawaiiweddings.net). They were wonderful to deal with, especially since I was arranging this from another country !!

I think the bigger hotels that have wedding planners offer wedding packages with ceremony %26amp; dinner packages.

We only had about 13 people for our reception dinner and originally we also wanted Dukes, because it was one of our favourite places in Waikiki. When Penny looked into this for me, they told her there would be a patio rental fee (I think it was about $200) for the outdoor patio area at the back plus then the meals on top of this. In the end we decided to go with something a bit more personal and had our wedding dinner at Orchids @ Halekulani Hotel.

While Orchids wasnt included in our wedding package, Penny made all the arrangements %26amp; reservations at Orchids for us. We wanted a table with view looking towards Waikiki %26amp; Diamond Head, table place cards which Halekulani made up for us etc etc. We paid for everyone%26#39;s dinner at the end of the evening. They had a lovely menu called Chefs Dinner Special which was $53pp for 5 course meal. The meal was absolutely fantastic, the service %26amp; atmosphere at Orchids could not be faulted.

We were very happy with all the services we received from Penny %26amp; Wayne and Orchids :-)

You should start calling beachfront hotels that interest you. I%26#39;m recommending hotels because you and your guests will have a place to dress or change clothes after the ceremony, it you want. Also - unless it%26#39;s daybreak - Waikiki has lots of visitors. So unless you want uninvited guests (let your mind wander on this) having a wedding at the beach, but private property is a good idea.

Certainly the Royal Hawaiian has the space for weddings - and for the dinner. They have GREAT beach-front grounds. A classy place to get married.

The weddings at the Moana Surfrider -- not enough room... it doesn%26#39;t work. I have seen too many of them .... Japanese couples lined up like planes on the runway. I%26#39;m not kidding.

Dukes does have a private room, but no windows ... by the bar ... very noisy.
