Hale Pinao in Kona....anyone stayed there?

I saw this home Hale Pinao (House of the Dragonfly) and wanted to know if any one knows more about this home. Anybody heard about it or stayed in it?

Are the beaches nearby, how is the surrounding area.

The home is is off Palani Rd in Kailua Kona close to the airport.

I tried to look it up on the web but I couldn%26#39;t find a single web site with a map showing the location. While the pictures imply a luxury house, Palani Road is a major road going from Kona to Waimea.

I do remember some weeks past seeing some shingle stuck out on Hiway 190 ( AKA Palani) about the 1800 ft elevation past the palisades ( you are only 10 miles from the nearest beach but only 6 fron the landfill ( good if you have trash) and the description sorts of matches....

The area gets rain and traffic daily, is in the low 60%26#39;s at night...... has a cool view of the coast and is 15 to 45 min to Kona one way depending on time of day.

There are a whole slew of under the table rentalsB%26amp;Bs all over from a spare bedroom to a converted garage.

Some are legit and great.... others are the bates motel...... you gotta do homework....... which you are doing. It seems I hear of a new place every week.......... only stay at places that do not require cash or checks in advance, which take creditcards for your security, thats the minimum......... remember there are 60 min in an hour so min from the beach can mean anyhere form 2 to 59.

Good luck..... compare more than 1 and compare condos and hotels too...........

I looked at the website and map--the nearest good swimming beaches are the State Park (rough road), Kua, etc. A bit of a drive down Palani and then on the coast road.

Could not find the price on their website; saw it goes for $800-$1200 a night on another site. It seems you are looking for a large place? You might ckeck 3-bedroom condos at Kolea or Waikoloa Resort--if being near the water would be a plus. $1000 a night can get you a lot ot choose from, I think.

The thing I noticed is that they make you pay for everything 30 days in advance--including all taxes and cleaning fees. Refunds are limited if you have to cancel on short notice.
