Ritz-Carlton or Kapalua Villas

If both properties were the same price, which one would you pick and why?

Ritz-Carlton or Kapalua Villas

Isn%26#39;t the Ritz closed?

Ritz-Carlton or Kapalua Villas

Sorry, this will be for May 2008.

I would pick the ritz, post renevotion. I think it%26#39;s closed til the end of the year though.

The only problem with the villas is that many of them have very dated decor. If you were able to see pics of the exact unit, and it looked good, I would go with that (only if it was a Bay Villa with ocean view).

Kapalua Villas, the one our aunt %26amp; uncle gave us as a honeymoon gift with simply awesome. Right overlooking Oneloa Beach, hearing the waves at night, waking up to the pacific ocean %26amp; Molaka%26#39;i filling the view of your window... it%26#39;s more like you are living in Maui instead of visiting Maui. Ritz Carlton is also set back from the beach, so while there are ocean view rooms, it%26#39;s hard to hear the ocean at night. The best part about staying at the Kapalua Villas is you get to use the Ritz-Carlton%26#39;s amenities (pool, etc.).

It says on the Ritz website that it will be closed until January 2008, so it should be open by May if what the website says is correct. Any locals have different info?

Have stayed at both, %26amp; while I enjoyed the Ritz, I absolutely LOVE the Villa%26#39;s -- I actually prefer the Ridge Villa%26#39;s to the Bay Villa%26#39;s for their design and the unbelievable sweeping ocean views!!

The Ritz is scheduled to re-open in Jan, %26#39;08... in Hawai%26#39;i time that means probably by April, assuming that ';Jaws'; (mega-wave surf spot..) isn%26#39;t breaking too much over the winter...

; )

I agree with Maui NKO. Stay at the Ridge Villas. Overall I find it much more relaxing to stay in the villas versus a hotel room. You have more space and don%26#39;t need to go out for every meal. Add the panoramic ocean views of the Ridge Villas and the use of the RItz and it%26#39;s a slam dunk!

Enjoy whatever you decide.

Location is everything in Kapalua right now. We just returned yesterday and were staying at the Napili Kai on Napili Bay. Kapalua is one big construction zone right now. The old Kapalua Bay hotel was demolished and is being replaced by a huge high end timeshare project. If you get a Villa near that project you will be dealing with construction noise and dust.

The Ritz is completely closed for renovation. I was told that they hope to have one wing of it opened in time for the Mercedes championship in January. From the looks of things last week, they sure have a LOT of work to do. If you plan to stay there, I would be sure to get some assurances that the construction / renovation would be complete by May and have an ';out'; in place if it is not.
