Calling all locals!
My husband and I are going to be on the BI for a week and are looking for the cheap, local courses. He doesn%26#39;t play very well and we don%26#39;t want to spend 100s of dollars on golf.
Where do the locals play? Is there such thing as a $25 green fee?
Cheap, beginner golf on the Big Island?
I don%26#39;t think there are any $25 greens fees (well maybe for mini golf) but here is a link to the courses and prices on the BI.

Aloha,
Makalei Golf Club has an afternoon 1/2 price of $45.00, that is where I would start.
Actually, there are two courses where you can play for $25, Makalei and Waikoloa Village. However, you have to be a resident here to get that price. :)
Does anyone know what the Swing Zone is? Is it a regulation course? Driving range? Where is it located?
Thanks in advance for your knowledge!
Aloha, driving range, 18-hole putting course/min-golf, batting cages.
It actually has a nine hole course too, in addition to the already mentioned driving range. It%26#39;s located by the Old Airport. Take Kuakini Highway all the way to the end and make a right on Makala Boulevard. (The street is closed for through traffic.)
Thanks everyone! I called Swing Zone and they have a 6-hole Par 3 course. $14 gets you on the course for the whole day.
My last question (I promise) is whether anyone has played at Hamakua Country Club. Do they rent clubs? Carts? Is alcohol allowed?
You will have to be flexible with that one. Waimea Country Club is on the ';gree side'; (ie. WET!) of Waimea and you would need to check on the weather before going there.
Waimea Country Club is a nice change of pace for the
Big Island golfer. The course is at 3000 feet above sea level, so it%26#39;s much cooler than the Kohala coast.
It%26#39;s also much greener, and you can experience
several different weather systems during your round.
A links style course with lot of trees and plants,
this is a relaxing golf course. It is a good value
compared to the Kohala courses. Green fees with cart
are about $95, but there%26#39;s a $40 coupon in one of the tourist books.
