Has anyone used Hawaiian Discount Car Rentals. Be sure of the name because there are similar companies. I am considering using them but a little concerned. They are about $100 cheaper on a convertible than the rental agencies for a week.
Any help would be appreciated. Their price is going through Thrifty. Thanks........................
Car Rental
I have used Hawaiian Discount Car Rentals in the past, and it was a good deal for us as well. My car was also through Thrifty. We had absolutely no problems.

Thanks for the reply, I may go ahead and book now...........Enjoy
Don%26#39;t forget to check out the Priceline option. We just returned from a 10 day trip and prior to leaving the cheapest quote we had for a convertible was $47 a day. We did the ';Name Your Price'; option on priceline and got the same car for $18 a day. When we arrived it took all of 3 minutes to sign the paperwork and we drove off in a brand new Sebring with less than 40 miles on it.
Snowbird...how long in advance did you go on Priceline?
I am struggling with how to use that site...went to Betterbidding.com and it%26#39;s even harder! Thanks for any help.
I booked the car with Priceline about 5 weeks before our trip.
The catch with Priceline%26#39;s Name Your Price option is that you give them a CC number and if they accept the price it%26#39;s booked. When you go on their site, just plug in the airport code for your pick up location (OGG for Maui) and your pick up dates and times. Their system will come back with a list of quotes for various size cars from all the rental companies. Then if you want to name your own price, click on that option at the top of the page and follow the prompt. You can generally get 40 to 50% off the prices first quoted. If the price you name is too low, they will come back with a suggestion.
Good Luck!
thank you so much for the info...you might consider ghost writing for them as your explanation is much clearer than theirs.
I know I tend to be a little over-scheduling and picky.. we are not going until next May. (can%26#39;t help it...it%26#39;s just what Virgos do) Do you think it%26#39;s too early to book now?
I did find a great deal for the 4 days in Oahu..$76 for a compact at Enterprise because they are running a 50% off sale over a weekend. Then I have a coupon for a category upgrade. Going to book that one.
My husband would love a convertible (too cold for one where we live) but it seemed safer to go for that on Maui than on Oahu.
Again...thanks for your advice.
You are probably more likely to get a better discount closer to your travel date than if you booked it now. They don%26#39;t make any money on inventory that is sitting on their lot, and when they are closer to the date you are traveling, they have better visibility as to their inventory usage. They%26#39;d rather send a car out deeply discounted than have it sit on their lot.
May is still a bit ahead of the summer travel rush when all the families show up after school lets out, so you should have no trouble getting a good discount. But if it were me, I guess I%26#39;d wait until I was 4-5 weeks out before I%26#39;d book it.
okay..sounds good. Thanks again.
Regarding the convertible... The first time we went to Maui, someone recommended we get a convertible and it was about the best advice we had for the whole trip. Maui is the quintessential convertible environment. So we try to save $$ elsewhere so we can splurge a little be on a convertible. Our rule while we%26#39;re there is: ';As long as it%26#39;s not pouring rain, the top goes down no matter how brief the trip.';
One little caution. Be sure to have a hat and sunblock easily accessible in your baggage. Nothing worse than arriving at your hotel from the airport with a sunburn already (especially if you are folically challenged like me :-D )
I know...there%26#39;s just something about a convertible that is a match with Maui.
Love your last comment about follically challenged. I have a ton of hair though I%26#39;m no longer sure what color it would be left to its own devices. I complain about the increasing grey all the time. My husband just shakes his head and says, ';What is the matter with you...ANY hair on your head is a good one!';
So...a convertible it will be and we%26#39;ll see which one of us complains about the wind in our hair!
