Hanauma Bay snorkel at night

Has anyone gone snorkeling at night? What was the experience like?

Hanauma says that they stay open until 10pm on the 2nd (and sometimes 4th) Saturday of the month.

Hanauma Bay snorkel at night

i wish i could help you! i just returned a couple weeks ago and had every intention of going, but the weather was really windy and rainy so we decided against it. I dont know if you have ';Oahu Revealed'; but he describes it as mostly locals, not crowded, and mostly the night shift creatures like crabs etc. I would definitely go if you have the chance, who knows what you could see! PS: ive searched a bunch here for the answer to your question before my trip and it seems like no one has really done this.

Has anyone out there done this? It really looks like a good introduction to night snorkeling. I might even be able to talk my teenagers into it--and they wouldn%26#39;t have to get up early!

I%26#39;ve done it a few times. it%26#39;s the 2nd and 4th Saturday now during the Summer. It%26#39;s especially nice close to a full moon. Like someone else mentioned, it%26#39;s a good intro to night diving. You%26#39;ll want to be careful if it%26#39;s your first time in the ocean at night.

Thanks Beyondnback. I%26#39;ve been night diving and love it. There were so many strange things that came out of the coral at night.

Did you find Hanauma Bay crowded at that time?

I%26#39;m excited!

Nowhere close to the crowds of the daytime, but I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;d call it crowded by night standards. I%26#39;d maybe go early in morning to shorkel and get acquainted with the bay some day before my planned Saturday night trip.

I went last Saturday and there was hardly anyone there. 50 people max in the water. Maybe because there was no moon. It was actually very cool with no moon. It was open till 10PM, but they wanted you out of the water by 9PM. Parking is free after 5:30PM. The only down side is they charge $10 or $12 to rent one of the two types of underwater lights. If you%26#39;re gonna do it a few times, it%26#39;s worth it to get an underwater flashlight. It%26#39;s good to get there before sunset so you can check out where the channels are if you want to go outside the reef. The reef gets very shallow at low tide, very tough to get over it if you don%26#39;t know where the channel is.
