North or South in Early March?

Never been to kauai, but we will be changing that March 8 - 15, 2008. I can%26#39;t decide rather to stay in the PoPui area, or the Hanalei/Princeville area. I will have 4 teenage boys who will want to try surfing again, and love to boogie board. I am concerned it might rain to much up North that time of year.

I would also like some very upscale Condo recomendations, we will have a minumum of 12 to 16 in our party, so we would be looking for 3 to 4 units. We would like something on/near the beach, with good views and a pool. Two large houses side by side would works as well.

We are looking for very high end units if possible.

Thanks!!!

North or South in Early March?

With having the kids along I would suggest Poipu in March. Surfing could be pretty wild up north. I can see 15 foot waves from my place that time of year. Look into Kiahuna Plantations but stay as close to the ocean as possible. The pool is across the street but it does have a good beach. Martik has the house recommendations.

KP is not ';upscale'; though. Some units are nicer than others but it is on the beach.

Your teenagers will love the girl/boy watching at Poipu beaches.

If you do decide on the north shore look into Puu Poa and Hanalei Bay Resort. At PP they are 2 bedrooms with great ocean views and at HBR you can rent a 2 or 3 bedroom (but rent through an owner for the nicest upscale units with awesome views). Surfing can be done in Hanalei Bay.

North or South in Early March?

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I agree! March is still winter conditions here and as such, that means high surf and dangerous ocean conditions on the North Shores of all islands -- calmer waters on the South Shore.

Kiahuna Plantation is a good choice -- it is set directly on a section of Po%26#39;ipu Beach that is popular and usually swimmable and they do give surf lessons right out in front of the property. There is a lot of construction all around this area although the condos themselves (except for the ones close to Po%26#39;ipu Rd.) wouldn%26#39;t be affected by it at all.

As far as ';very upscale'; -- no I wouldn%26#39;t consider Kiahuna that. They are plantation style buildings and since each one is individually owned they vary greatly in amenities and how recently they have been refurnished.

The only condos that I%26#39;d consider that way would be ';Whaler%26#39;s Cove'; and maybe ';Honu Kai Villas'; -- one is pretty far away from the beach area (Whaler%26#39;s Cove) and the latter is very close to Brennecke%26#39;s Beach (a popular bodyboarding beach) and Po%26#39;ipu Beach Park.
