nothing open yet but you can now drive around in the outer parking lot, see into the interior courtyard, see landscaping is in ... only signs on buildings yet are Starbucks and Giggles (both of which are already in Kings%26#39; Shops (moving?).
Heard rumor that Tommy Bahama%26#39;s is coming to Kings%26#39; Shops and Kings%26#39; Shops will now be the high end place, that the Food Court is moving to Queens, leaving Kings with Louis Vitton type shops and expensive meals. (this is from my son who paints in the area, I think he will be working on the Tommy Bahamas.
There%26#39;s a grocery store like loading dock at Queens and something that might be a multiplex -- just spec, but that would be wonderful for residents, not to have to drive to Kona for a movie.
The complex looks ugly and boxy to me. BRICK -- how is that island style ... give the look a C minus, but new services will be great.
Queens shops Waikoloa
It is amazing that people will pay the kind of money that the high end restaurants charge to eat dinner with NO ocean view in HAWAII. Oh well. More sunset view tables for me! :-)
Queens shops Waikoloa
Thanks for keeping us up to date. We are planning to visit the Big Island for the first time in Feb 2008 and need all the info we can find. We%26#39;re staying at the Marriott Waikoloa.
Let us know of the progress!
So true, Honu Ohana! What about Ruth Chris%26#39;s in the Mauna Lani shops -- I think it is downstairs even ... I love views/1
BLBL - it%26#39;s really coming along, the exterior looks practically finished. Of course each interior has to be finished and made ready with fixtures to host businesses, and then inventory brought in, doesn%26#39;t look to be at that stage yet.
But having the landscaping in is a very good sign of progress.
I would imagine it will be up and running before the holidays -- way too many dollars at stake to miss out on high season.
I am not totaly sure, but when last i checked, the queens shops were not having any up-scale diining.... just casual and and food court stuff lke Arbys,. .
However, because is on the ';Kohala coast'; you can expect prices to refelect the area..... The market to be sure will be priced to match
right Dan,
what my son told me is that Queens will be the family lower budget destination, and that Kings will position itself as the high end shopping center ... and the existing Food Pavilion will relocate to Queens.
This is what he picked up from talking to people working in the painting and construction trades in the area. (My son has been painting in the Mauna Lani area for several months now).
Here%26#39;s an article with some info on the project...
…honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2006/May/27/…
K is he just regular painting or are they doing any murals or scenery??? ok in relation to the pond or lake where is queens as some fast foods were on the pond side and nice view is it on other side??
Queens is over on the other side of the road--away from the pond that Roy%26#39;s and the old food court overlook.
I have no idea what you can see from Queen%26#39;s--I%26#39;d hazard a guess that it is nothing much but lava and condos.
As you head toward the Marriott, the Queens shops are on your left just before the Marriott. The view would be of the lava flow, the road and condos.
the design is that of a mall.... all facing inward.... so t the view wil be of the Oueens mall........... no lava no condos... no pond.
And as mentioned the old food court and places at the Kings, will be moved over to queens....... so goodby to the lake view from subway
The Kings center has an outfoor movie on the grass many evenings....
The premise is the business owners dont want valuable customers sitting in a dark theater when they could be in their restauraunt of shop............
movies at a resort are counter productive for profits
