Hello, we are taking our 16 month old and were reading about all the fun things to do in Kauai. We know there are babysitters available, but we wanted to have her around to take part in the fun. Are there any things, activity wise that are toddler friendly?
Also, we are staying in the Waipouli Beach resort--any suggestions of what to do that is nearby?

do a search on Lydgate Park. You%26#39;ll see lots of info re the play structure. Might be a bit beyond a 16 month old but maybe not.
WBR has a nice sandy area kids as well as the river/pool.
too bad the kids discovery museum across the street folded. That would have been convenient though this time of year it was an oven.

Aloha, I just ordered the new dvd ';Travel to Hawaii with kids- the Island of Kauai'; from Amazon, about $16. It shows all the great family friendly places to go on Kauai, I think my 3 kids would enjoy watching it also. They also have the dvd%26#39;s for the other islands as well and they seem to get good reviews.
I also have Frommers ';Hawaii with Kids'; and ';Fun with the Family Hawaii';- Julie Applebaum and there is some good info there as well.
From my research, there seems to be a lot of family friendly beaches that are protected by reef so great toddlers. We will check out Lydgate, Salt Pond Beach, Poipu, Baby Beach- Kapaa, Anini, Tunnels, Ke%26#39;e. I%26#39;m sure your toddler will be perfectly happy playing at the baby beach at WBR. We%26#39;ll also be staying there next summer, seems very conveinient and pools great for my kids. Who did you book WBR thru? Debating on going thru Expedia or vrbo but expedia doesn%26#39;t have rates out yet for next summer. Happy planning, aloha!
I%26#39;m taking my daughter to Kauai and she%26#39;ll be 18 months old at the time. I%26#39;m staying in Princeville and I%26#39;ve been doing my own research into what I can do to entertain her. I%26#39;ve looked at bike rentals and a place where I%26#39;m staying rents bikes with an infant seat in the back. Your little one might enjoy something like that!
Aloha! Well, if you don%26#39;t currently own a quality child back pack, I would invest in one of those . . . like the Kelty%26#39;s ridgeway . . . I am assumming they still make them, as my kids are older now. That way you aren%26#39;t limited at all on where you want to go - you can hike, walk in botanical gardens, farmers markets and the kids get to see at your eye level - look at people%26#39;s faces rather than knee caps. :)
Kauai is very kid friendly - you can take her just about anywhere and people will be happy - kids are great ice breakers.
As well, I would also get one of those tropical flap hats to protect her head/neck, sunglasses and lots of baby sunblock. The sun on the islands is very fierce - you don%26#39;t want her to get sun burnt. As well, I would buy some great beach toys when you arrive - that will probably be the most fun - you can donate them when you leave. You didn%26#39;t mention when you are were going . . . make sure you stick to the calm beaches . . . like Baby beach in the winter. Have a great trip! :)
Another option for a good toddler back carrier is an Ergo. A Kelty is more sturdy and probably more comfortable from a weight distribution standpoint, but an Ergo is a soft carrier that can squish up into a backpack or beachbag.
Ditto on the Kelty idea. They%26#39;re a little pricey, but SOOOOO worth it! You can maneuver so much better when you don%26#39;t have to worry about a stroller and wheels (which is impossible to use if you want to hike, shop, or go to the beach). Plus (although technically Kelty advises NOT doing this), we%26#39;ve used the Kelty as a ';chair'; when we%26#39;re in restaurants or just want to take a break. This does involve close supervision so they don%26#39;t fall over, but it can be done!
If you do look into this - be sure to get one that has the sun guard attachment - keeps your little one in the shade or out of the rain.
Have fun!
My kids, including the baby, loved the Like Kauai Napali lunch cruise.
People seem to LOVE little ones on Kauai, so you%26#39;ll get lots of happy attention!
Yep, definitely get a backpack for her--she%26#39;ll love going anywhere you love!
Definitely bring her to a farmer%26#39;s market or sunshine market--she can try yummy fruits, fresh coconut, etc!
You can rent all of the baby gear you need on the island instead of bringing ot over from the mainland.
We used a company called ';Ready Rentals'; http://www.readyrentals.com/
They have everything we needed from jogging strollers to baby gates to backpacks and port-a-cribs. They will even deliver the stuff to your house or condo. A lot easier than bringing all that over from the mainlaind.
The backpack is such a great idea! We were beginning to think we could only wade around in the pool--and we were going to fly all the way to kauai just to do that! Thanks for the great advice!
I went to Sports Chalet and decided to look and see if they had a Kelty backpack. I tired it out with my daughter and decided to buy one. I paid around $56 for it. It%26#39;s a 1.0 model with a weight requirement up to 30Lbs. The backpack will probably save me from carrying her on my hip.
