We%26#39;re trying to decide when to make our travel plans. My husband wants to be there to see the waves at North Shore. We were thinking about the last week of November and the first week of December. We want to be able to get out and look at a lot of places while we are there but we don%26#39;t know about the weather. Last year at that time we saw where you had a lot of rain. It that usual? We have been there in April and the weather was beautiful but we didn%26#39;t get to see a lot so if those months aren%26#39;t too great we may have to change and make other plans. What are the rainy months and what are the busy months? Would appreciate any info. Thanks 10xNana
Late November WeatherLate November is the start of the big wave season but there is no guarantee that they%26#39;ll be there when you are (I always seem to miss the 20+ waves even though I try really hard to be there). The holding period for the first of the Triple Crown Surfing events starts around Nov 12 and the events run whenever the organizers make the call. Sometimes its held in 5%26#39; chop simply because time is running out (not a terribly impressive sight). Tell your husband that there is a chance the waves will be there and just cross your fingers. Last week November/ first week December have an almost equal chance of seeing waves.
The rain season also co-incidentally starts at the same time as the big wave season so again you%26#39;ll have to cross your fingers. For the past 4-5 years I%26#39;ve been going Oahu %26amp; Kauai for the last 2 weeks in November (Oahu for first few days, rest on Kauai). The worst I%26#39;ve ever seen on Kauai was downpours at night (sometimes early morning) and sun for the rest of the day - meanwhile my coworkers visiting Oahu at the same time saw nothing but rain their entire visit. That was only one year though. Last year it was sun the entire time and I left 2 days before the rain clouds opened up.
Late November WeatherTry these two sites for info on the averages at those times. BTW, you may want to avoid Thanksgiving time, the resorts get pretty busy and rooms may be hard to come by.
