We arrive Maui at 6:23pm, after a full day of flying from Omaha (9:00am). We%26#39;re looking for something quick/simple for supper between the airport and cottage in Kihei. Something with a little island flair to it...
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Nothing really great or ocean side in Kahului area ... but if you drive 5 minutes to Paia - lots of choices. We really like Moana%26#39;s with amazing diversity and jazz or local music. It is a small bakery / cafe on Baldwin Avenue; not near ocean.
Jacques in Paia has a nice outdoor area, but still not ocean side, faces Hana Highway. They also have good selection of seafood and island goodies; not too pricey; good service and music.
Turn left at the light past the K-Mart onto the Hana Highway. Head to Paia; on the left - ocean side - as you approach you will see the sign for Baldwin Beach Park. Start looking on the right for a community parking lot, just before the stop light. This is free, paved, well lit. Park as close to street as you can. Have most of your luggage in the trunk.
Walk to stop light / crossing and cross Baldwin. For Jacques, keep going about 1/2 block up. For Moana%26#39;s, head up Baldwin past Mana Foods. It is just a bit further up.
Check them out in the Maui Dining Guides - will have copies of these at airport for upcountry, Northshore, west Maui, south Maui, etc.
To head back to Kihei, just get back on Hana Highway and retrace your steps back towards Kahului. Here is a link to Yahoo maps with directions ...

If you like Mexican, try Las Pinatas in Kahalui:
395 Dairy Road, Unit J(808) 877-8707
Inexpensive and we enjoyed the food when we were there in early August.
I would not recommend Pa`ia from the airport. It is not on the way to your cottage, and I personally would not leave my luggage and belongings unattended in either lot on Baldwin avenue, especially after dark.
My suggestion would be to head towards Kihei. There are many places in Kahului, but nothing really exciting. Lots of the usual chain/fast food type stuff. You could stop at Da Kitchen, either right near the airport, or in Kihei. You can grab a very large portioned plate lunch. Great food, but very casual, no view, etc. That probably be my choice after a day of traveling.
How about Ma%26#39;alea (sp?). Nice restaurants ... great views ... a little out of the way, but not much.
I%26#39;d taken Linaka or BLBL advice. (I%26#39;ve always wanted to try Buzz%26#39;s Wharf, but never have.)
My dw used to make fun of me because I called it ';supper';. She said it%26#39;s ';dinner';. I said, ';Have you heard the way you sneeze?';. She said, ';Have you heard the way you snore?';
Despite the dinner/supper, sneezing %26amp; snoring, the two of us do have a wonderful lovely relationship. Thanks for listening Dr. Phil.
If you are looking for authentic island flair then ';Da Kitchen'; is where you%26#39;ll want to head. You get the classic ';mixed plate'; there, 2 mounds of white rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and Kalua pork is my recommendation. It%26#39;s quick, it%26#39;s cheap, it%26#39;s delicious, service comes with Aloha spirit, and it%26#39;s practically the first place you come to as you leave the airport rental car area. It%26#39;s in a little strip mall called ';Triangle Square';, due to the shape of the intersection it%26#39;s at - Haleakala Hwy (369), Koloa Rd, and Hana Hwy. It%26#39;s also a taste of local culture %26amp; customs, as not many tourists go here because they don%26#39;t serve the high priced seafood most people go to Hawaii for.
Do you get to Da Kitchen before Costco? We want to hit Costco on our way from the airport, but I know we will be starving after our 5 hour flight on ATA with no food service! We land at 10:30. I would love to have a Hawaiian plate lunch as our first meal in paradise, especially since my husband has never been. I know Costco has the food court, and I have eaten at the one in Kona when I was there with my kids a few years ago, but was hoping for something different this trip. If it%26#39;s not too out of the way from Costco, that sounds like a great choice for a quick lunch before we start our grocery shopping.
As I remember it was just after the Costco. Instead of making a left on Haleakala Hwy and turning right into Costco, make a right on Haleakala Hwy, left on Koloa St (1st left), and then a right into the driveway that enters the Triangle Square parking lot.

Thanks, sounds great. Is it easy to get back to Costco from there?
I read your topic and thought immediately DA KITCHEN. My husband can drive between the airport and there and Costco with his eyes shut, but I would have to look at a map. I%26#39;m counting on someone local to give your the route. It%26#39;s all very close, like a mile or two.
