The Whaler versus The Royal Lahaina?

My friend and I are getting ready to come to Maui for the first time the end of March and are confused where to stay. We%26#39;d like a moderate ocean front room and can%26#39;t decide between The Whaler at Kaamapali or the Royal Lahina Tower. We would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

The Whaler versus The Royal Lahaina?

Don%26#39;t know about the Royal Lahaina Tower, but the LOCATION of the Whaler can%26#39;t be beat. Can%26#39;t be beat!

The Whaler versus The Royal Lahaina?

Thank so much, I appreciate your information!

The Whaler for sure. If you go to www.vrbo.com you can book through owners and see photos of the actual unit you%26#39;ll be getting. Plus, the cost is usually lower than going through the condo management company.

The location of the Whaler is great--right next to Whaler%26#39;s Village where there are lots of fun shops and restaurants. Also, the beach right in front of the condo is great. Walk a few minutes to the left and you%26#39;ll be at Black Rock--a great snorkeling spot.

The Royal Lahaina Tower is not beachfront, you cannot get an ocean front room there unless you spring for a cottage. They are on grounds that run to the beach, nice beach, but a bit of a stroll

What are you planning to do? what do you like?

I would beg to differ that the Royal Lahaina is not beach front. I stayed in the tower last April and had a great view of the ocean from our room. As you leave the tower, it%26#39;s literally 30 seconds to get on the beach. The only thing between the Tower and the beach is the pool...and you can say that about any resort. Unless we%26#39;ve got different ideas of beach front....?

As for the resort itself, it was very nice. The rooms were newly remodeled and were perfect. You can walk to the Whaler%26#39;s Village, but it is farther than the Whaler is. There is also a free shuttle that runs there. Royal Lahaina is just on the other side of Black Rock.

I%26#39;ve heard great things about the Whaler too, so I don%26#39;t think you can go wrong.

The Whaler is very nice and has an excellent location. The Royal Lahaina seems a little dated, and is on the ';quieter'; side of Black Rock, away from the main Kaanapali stretch, and away from Whaler%26#39;s village. I%26#39;d go for the Whaler.

On our first trip to Maui in %26#39;91 we stayed at the Royal Lahaina. We decided then that if we ever returned that we would stay at one of the hotels near Whaler%26#39;s Village. On each trip since then (trip #9 is in 29 days!)we have stayed at Kaanapali Beach Hotel next door to The Whaler. There is definitely ';more action'; along this stretch of the beach. We particularly like the fact that we can return to our hotel after a day of activities, get ready for dinner %26amp; are a 5 - 10 minute walk from a wide variety of restaurants at Whaler%26#39;s Village or other hotels along this stretch of Kaanapali Beach. Parking can be frustrating at times so not having to get the car back out is a real plus for us. So I would have to recommend The Whaler over the Royal Lahaina. By the way - we%26#39;re native Hawkeyes! Enjoy your trip!

Hi everyone, this is such a great site to find out information. My friend and have never been to Maui and would like an ocean front view at an affordable price.

We%26#39;re only finding studio rooms with an ocean view at the Whaler. I was on tripadvisor.com looking at reviews of the Whaler, Royal Lahaina, and the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Oh my gosh, that really got confusing as I%26#39;d read some very positive reviews, but many negative reviews.

We%26#39;re looking for ocean front, medium price, clean, updated and non-smoking room. The Beach Hotel can not guarantee a non-smoking or an updated room. They can only guarantee the type of room. I kept reading how many people updated their room once they got there.

Does any one have any other recommedations that we haven%26#39;t heard about?

What has been anyone%26#39;s experience with renting directly from the owners at the Whaler?

We will be there 4 days, so would appreciate any ideas of where to go, reasonable places to eat. Will the whales be thereat the end of March and first of April?

I%26#39;m excited, but this lodging problem and not knowing what you%26#39;re getting is difficult.

Thanks again in advance for all of your help!

I can%26#39;t say anything about the Whaler, but last March I stayed at the Royal Lahaina. My room had a view of Black Rock, the golf course and the ocean. It was a gorgeous view, I couldn%26#39;t help smiling every time I looked out the window or went onto the lanai. The room was nice with what I would describe an elegant upscale island decor. And I completely agree with the poster that said it was on the beach. You come out the elevators, a short walk through the lobby, then past the pool and you are there.

We rented directly from the owner for our condo at the Whaler in December. His name is Mike Jordan, we had unit #1151. we got a better price than what is shown online directly with the whaler. it was a 2/2 with wonderful ocean front views. Great lanai. We have stayed at properties that were less, but for this location the price was good. We have stayed at the Royal Kahana, it was a very nice place, oceanfront unit there as well.
