Hey!
We are coming to Oahu for 5 days in May. One of the days we are planning on doing one of the driving tours of the island. We will probably also catch a luau at paradise cove. I like the idea of it being on the beach. What I am wondering is that since we are there a short time, if we should take a day to go to the Big Island to see the active volcano. If so, should we do it on our own or arrange one of the tours? Any advice would be great!!
Thanks!

OK, since you are on Oahu for just 5 days, I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d try to squeeze in a trip to the Big Island. Oahu can keep you busy for the entire 5 days, and you still on%26#39;t see everything.
If you do decide to go to the B.I., you can do it on your own if you choose. You%26#39;ll need inter-island flights, and a plan to have a car to do the volcano, or a guided tour. Start by looking at airfare with Aloha airlines or Hawaiian airlines. I don%26#39;t know how many people are with you, but it can get expensive for flights and then adding a guided tour/and/or a car. And this is for just one day. Airfare is running around 50-70 dollars one way to the other islands.
Good luck.

With only 5 days, forget an interisland trip.
The lava on Big Island is flowing in an area not accessible by foot or vehicle. So the only way to see the lava would be to take a helicopter tour while you are there.
Thanks so much. If you can%26#39;t really see the lava without a helicopter tour, that answers it for me. I appreciate it!
