Beach House Restauant

I%26#39;m not a foodie, but I do like good service when we dine out on vacation. We like plate lunches, shave ice and hot dogs too!

We hadn%26#39;t been to the Beach House for a couple of years because we didn%26#39;t like the hurried attitude the last couple of times, but last week we had the best experience there for our final dinner and I can%26#39;t say enough about it. No attitude at all when we left the table to take photos of the sunset as everyone else was doing.

I made reservations several weeks before we left home for the first seating at 5:30 PM We were hoping they would not hurry us out of there in an hour, and we did leave around 7:30 PM. They seated us the minute we walked in the door, at a window table.

Lorraine was our server, and she was excellent.

We started with drinks and the Macadamia Nut Crab Cakes.

I had the Safood Corn Chowder and my husband had the Caesar Salad for our next course.

For our Entrees we both had Snapper. My husband had the Kauai Duet, which was crab-topped, with seared scallops, risotto and chili buerre blanc sauce.

I had the special of the day, which was over sundried tomato risotto cake, baby spinach, Kauai asparagus and a salsa.

If you can believe it, we also had desert with our coffee. We already had the famous Molten Chocloate Cake at Tidepools for my husband%26#39;s birthday, so ordered the Sorbetto Trio...mango, lychee and Kaffir lime sorbetto.

I%26#39;m so glad we did this on our last evening, as the sunset was magnificent. I can%26#39;t believe how many people were lined up to get in there when we were leaving, and it was dark by then. They missed out on the best part of the restaurant, the view! Anyone reading this, be sure and book before you leave home, there are only a dozen or so window seats.

We were heading back to AZ this past Monday and at the last minute (5:30) stopped at the Beach House to see if they could squeeze us in - To our surprise, they had a table available - It was a great experience - The staff was friendly and attentive - The food was great and view was fabulous!!

We were sad about our vacation ending (and not looking forward to the Red eye!) but this was a great way to end a fantastic trip!!

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I%26#39;m so glad to hear positive things about the Beach House -- I never know what to say when people ask me about it -- I haven%26#39;t been there for a couple of years myself and there are lots of mixed reviews here on the TA board from visitors.

No matter what you think of it - it has become something of an institution here on Kaua%26#39;i -- it has been around since well before Hurricane Iniki and certainly I%26#39;d say its ';golden era'; was when Chef Jean Marie Josselin was there -- that gave it a huge reputation that has been pretty hard to follow.

The one thing that I can always tell people with 100% confidence is that you will have a fabulous view no matter where you sit -- I can%26#39;t think of another restaurant here that has anything close to the view Beach House does.

Great to hear that you had such a great time there!

Malama Pono,

Janet
