Duane's Ono Char-Burger -- Overrated

Had lunch there on Monday and was unimpressed. Staff was pleasant enough, but slow (and there wasn%26#39;t even a crowd). Our food came 25 minutes after ordering; the guy ahead of me got his food after waiting 35 minutes, and was told ';the burgers like to cook slow';. Speaking of burgers, we certainly would not go out of our way again -- they weren%26#39;t anything to write home about.

Your mileage may vary...

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Certainly everyone has different tastes and opinions -- personally I%26#39;ve always loved ';Ono Char-Burger'; and it has been around about forever and a day -- one of the unique places that you see both residents and visitors also, it gets a real mix of folks there.

I%26#39;m still addicted to their blue cheese burger (Boca burger as I%26#39;m vegetarian) -- it is soo good and I love all the sprouts! Since I don%26#39;t get up that far North too often it is always a treat to go there and then take your food down to Anahola Beach Park to eat. My stomach is starting to rumble as I write this - seriously!

I like that it is a family-run operation too -- no chain type or franchise.

Different opinions is what makes the world go %26#39;round!

Malama Pono,

Janet

AZ: Finally figuring out the food review thingy, I think. T.A. posts can blow hot or cold on any restaurants food or ambience, i.e., bbq, seafood prep, dessert, pina colada/mai tai%26#39;s, pricing, service and decor. I have decided much depends on individual taste buds, food experience, home location and other travel opportunities whether you give a two-thumbs up or two-thumbs down review. Even tho I agree with you, I cannot totally discount burger or hot dog joints on this tiny little island in the middle of the sea. They have scarce need to develop the competitive edge necessary to succeed on the mainland and, besides, as a captive on the island I have developed tourist vision and having been forced to give up my tunnel vision. Sometimes ';it%26#39;s [ just ] the sauce.';

I%26#39;d rather drive to Nawiliwili for burgers. Burger--%26gt;Home Depot--%26gt;Costco--%26gt; home. If feeling cheap, a hot dog for $1.50 is hard to top.

Can%26#39;t stand all those chickens crapping all over at Duanes. And they really can%26#39;t keep up with the traffic. Last time we went there it took almost an hour. Lots easier to fire up the grill at home and you can get the same beef if you know where to buy.

i love that place and will support them every time i go to the island.

my wife lost her wallet there (we had no idea where we lost it).

they did some leg work to find out where she was staying and were able to get in touch w/ us so that we could recover the missing wallet.

we had cancelled all the credit cards and were trying to figure out how we were going to get her on the plane w/ no ID when they called.

we went back and had breakfast there when we picked up the wallet and we tipped the waitress super-phat.

i have total aloha for those dudes forever.

on top of all of that, i like their food.

Love the place!! Wow. on the Marionberry shake and Maui onion rings!

Aloha! I am not a huge burger fan, but I did like their%26#39;s . . . much better than the Bubba burgers I think . . . but again, this is coming from someone who would rather eat fish! :)

We just returned from Kauai and tried Ono Burger on the suggestion of some friends - We thought they were really good! We got them to go and went to Anahola Beach for a picnic - Great way to enjoy them!

Ono burgers is still great. Everything is a little slower on the island. I also went to Bubba%26#39;s this time and it took 20 minutes. The only thing I notcied about Ono is they were a bit skimpier on the meat . Maybe the price of beef went up and they are making the patties thinner. Also went to lunch at Scottys which I LOVE. Best BLT anywhere around. Great view, good service (except he gave me someone elses more expensive bill) and good prices for lunch.
