Anyone stayed at Sealodge condos Princeville?

I would appreciate any input or feedback on this property. I saw 1 or 2 units on-line that looked pretty nice but it%26#39;s always nice to ask the TA family.

There were some comments on some threads a few days ago. Just do a search. I have never stayed there but drive by all the time. I think they are not attractive from the outside (look weather beaten) but maybe that is how they should look. I think the views from some of the condos must be wonderful as they face the lighthouse area. Many on this board have stayed there so they can give you scoop.

I stayed there last year in March. We stayed a unit for 97dollars a night (you can find it on VRBO). The unit was very clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely friendly and easy to deal with. No A/C but it had a really nice view of the ocean. There is also a path down to sealodge beach. I never ventured to the pool, dont even know if it has one. We were gone from the condo most of the time. Only used it to sleep and shower :)

We%26#39;ve stayed in several units there and have always enjoyed it. Sealodge is on a bluff above the reef and the views run from merely great to fabulous. Because each unit is individually owned, the decor varies. We%26#39;ve stayed in units more geared to family use and comfort, though pics I seen indicate that some are more luxuriously furnished. We prefer the 2 bedroom/2 bath units; they have all been above the ground floor and had soaring greatroom ceilings. The second bedroom is a loft. The pool is adequate but not an issue for us as we don%26#39;t use it. The pool is definitely not a major attraction. The trades cool the units well; I haven%26#39;t missed AC when I%26#39;ve been there, which has always been in the summer. All the units have had fans, usually ceiling fans, as well. Good snorkeling at Sealodge Beach, though some people don%26#39;t like the hike. It is rather steep and some scrambling over rocks at the beach is required. Many units have washers and dryers. Nenes drop in regularly--remember it is ilegal to feed them.

There is a grocery store in Princeville and Hanalei, which has much to offer, is very close by.

If you want quiet and privacy, and to fall asleep to the sound of the surf, you%26#39;ll find it here. If you want lots of nightlife, it%26#39;s not for you.

I wish I were planning a trip instead of recently returned from one!

Never spent the night, but been in a few units. Ugly on the outside, but as nice as the owner makes it on the inside. The views of most of the units look east over Anini Bay towards the lighthouse, so it%26#39;s not as hot on the lanai in the afternoon. If you don%26#39;t mind the hike, the beach below is even more private than Hideaways. Snorkeling is good at high tide, but the reef gets pretty shallow at low tide. I enjoy the walk down the path unless it%26#39;s been raining a lot or I have to lug a bunch of beach gear. I%26#39;ve never heard of anyone unhappy who%26#39;s stayed there - on this forum or elsewhere. If you don%26#39;t care about a pool or on sight dining, Sealodge could be the best bang for your buck as far as ocean view North Shore condos. You can find some good deals if you shop and ask around.

I%26#39;m staying at Sealodge at this very moment. As someone mentioned above, they%26#39;re not great to look at, but ours, for example, is a gem on the inside. I suppose it depends on the owner. One word of caution -- some of the units, perhaps all, do not have A/C. Ours gets pretty darn warm by late afternoon, but once the sun%26#39;s down the breeze together with a number of supplied fans help pull the temps down rather nicely.

Also, Sealodge Beach, a short hike down the bluff below, is great; quiet, not well known, and decent snorkeling.

We stayed in Unit H6 late Feb to early March this year. I posted this review:

We stayed at unit #H6 at Sealodge in Princeville Kauai from Feb 17 through March 3 and loved it.

The most important part and what you notice right away are the views. The H building is up front on the cliffs so there is nothing blocking your views of the ocean below. Our living room and bedroom both had amazing views.

It%26#39;s also in a very quiet end of the road neighborhood up in Princeville. Absolutely no road noise or traffic. All we heard, whenever we were home, was the sounds of the ocean.

The place was very clean. It was stocked with plenty of towels and cleaning supplies.

Our unit had it%26#39;s own washer and dryer but there was also a public one in case your unit does not.

There was also a small pool but we did not use it.

Most definitely worth the money (which for the North Shore of Kauai was a bargain) and we would stay again for sure.

AZJeepDude, I was up there yesterday (Monday) also. I think it was 86, about as hot as it gets there. Have fun

in2food: Sealodge is a very good value, as long as you get a unit where the owner has maintained it over the years. We were lucky to get a 1-bdr unit in which the owner takes pride and which he and his family visit throughout the year.

As for what some folks seem to think is an old or unattractive appearance from the outside, the Sealodge%26#39;s atmosphere is based on a Cape Cod look. So, the siding is made of weathered, cedar shingles. It is ';supposed'; to look that way. If you%26#39;re from, or you%26#39;ve ever visited, the east coast, the ';look'; will be familiar and welcoming. If not, I guess it looks old and tired, and definitely an anomaly, to those not used to it.

Hope you enjoy.

We stayed at Sealodge last year and loved it! We%26#39;re going back this December and staying there again. Like others have said, from the outside, they%26#39;re rather rundown looking but our unit last year was beautiful, clean, the owners had EVERYTHING a traveler could need (coolers, beach mats, etc) and the spectacular ocean view from the bluff still haunts us and that%26#39;s why we%26#39;re going back.

A little addendum to my post above...

We%26#39;re currently staying in Sealodge. We noticed that our condo smelled a little odd (like cat pee to me), and then in the middle of the week last week we noticed our closet floor was damp. By Friday morning it was quite noticable, so we called maintenance.

As I had guessed, we had done nothing to cause it -- the neighboring condo was experiencing a leak in the wall, and water was seeping into our condo. The carpet was soaked in the closet, and some of the walls were damp. The smell was likely mildew or mold.

Luckily(?), our Na Pali Catamaran tour that afternoon was cancelled (surprise Coast Guard Inspection of the morning tour, from what we gathered -- another story) because when we got back they said we had to move so they could do cleanup. They actually ended up putting us in another condo with a better view, which worked out well. I%26#39;m glad we were able to move mid-afternoon and not after getting back from the catamaran tour in the early evening -- that would not have been fun.

So...bad things do sometimes happen, but everyone tried to work together to make things right for us.
