Parker Ranch hunting?

Anyone been hunting at the ranch? Last time in Hawaii fishing didn%26#39;t pan out so well for us, and rather than do that again, I%26#39;d like to do something my husband would enjoy for a day or two. Anyone have any expereinces good or bad hunting at the ranch?

Parker Ranch hunting?

Don%26#39;t know when you are going, but we are going to be on the Big Island from 12/24 - 1/6, and my husband has scheduled 4 - 4 1/2 days of bird hunting through Patrick Fischer at Parker Ranch. He is going to go for some trophy birds that are on the island, that you can%26#39;t find anywhere else.....like the green pheasant, blue pheasant, kalij pheasant, 3 varieties of francolin, chukars, and other upland game birds. Have not ever hunted there yet, but Patrick Fischer has been featured in several bird hunting magazines, and his Hawaii hunts have been on a few different outdoor hunting tv shows. They will send you copies of the articles, etc., if you contact them. we will try to post info after our trip to let you know how it goes!!!

Parker Ranch hunting?

Aloha ViolinGal,

I don%26#39;t specifically know about hunting at Parker ranch, but other than birds, there are also folks who hunt mouflan sheep, wild goats and pigs.

Most ';hunters'; I know are pig hunters but mostly they are trying to keep the pigs from destroying yards and digging everything up, it isn%26#39;t primarily for sport. Mostly it is an attempt at pig eradication, but other than fencing them out with hog wire fencing that has two strands of barb wire across the bottom there doesn%26#39;t seem to be any way to keep them out of places. They are really tasty though so it all works out.

My friends had some mainland hunter friends visiting who had a license for pigs and turkeys - I don%26#39;t know if it was one license or two separate licenses. They shot a pig across the little gully and on the next hill over all the way across the pasture (900 feet?). Our friends are more the ';meat comes from Safeway / tunafish comes in a can'; sort of folks and their mainland friends hadn%26#39;t ever shot a pig before so they were sort of at a ';now what?'; kinda moment when we dropped by. They brought the pig to our house (dead and field dressed, how polite! - many people give us wild pigs that are still snarling at us) where we cut it up into roasts. Our friends were still uncertain about how the pig would taste (like pork?) so we gave a couple roasts to their other neighbor who smoked it and had everyone over for dinner. Ha! Now they want to hunt more pigs so we gave them a lot of the roasts and chops back to tide them over until they get another pig.

Isn%26#39;t there elk and deer hunting near Denver? That sounds like it could be tasty, too!

A hui hou,

Thought I would follow up to this post, although you have probably already taken your trip!!! My husbands experience with Patrick Fischer at Parker Ranch was amazing!!! He absolutely loved it!!! Pat is knowledgeable, informative, professional, and an awesome guy to hunt with. Probably the best hunting experience he has ever had, and he has traveled to many different places!!! Would highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys hunting!

For those who are not into hunting but into birds, Pat also has bird watching tours. He is amazing!
