Housesitter's in Canada

I have never seen this question posted and am curious.

How many people have housesitters take care of their home while they are away on holiday. Say, an average size home in Alberta of approx. 1200 sq ft., plus snow to shovel in the winter...?

How much do you pay them?

Thanks for your input!

I have no idea what you pay a house sitter but is an average size home in Alberta really only 1200 sq. ft. ?????

Not sure about just housesitting, but we have a professional petsitter come and stay with our 2 dogs the entire time we are away. So I guess the housesitting part is included with the petsitting! But we are in Phoenix, so there is no snow to shovel! We pay on average $60-70 per 24 hours. I would expect quite a surcharge for snow shoveling though!

If they are living rent free and no other task is required...i wouldnt pay much...mabye just post an ad and discuss with interested parties directly...Im from Australia and it would be such a novelty to see/shovel snow id do it for free!! :) But I have no plans of comign to Alberta!

Perhaps %26#39;professional%26#39; housesitters who do it regularly will be able to provide what the standard rate would be....

good luck

cheers

My neighbors pay someone $20/day to watch their cats while on vacation. Does that count. Shoveling snow sounds like more work than pampering a couple of cats though.

Petstr, am I correct in reading that you pay someone ';$60-70 per 24 hours';? Wow, maybe I ought to go into the pet sitting business :-))

Cndn40~ , we have a good friend (retired) who is also a neighbour come in twice a day to feed/check on our cats %26amp; dog. We always bring him back something from our travels, as well as pay him about $100 per week. He enjoys our TV since we have some sports channels he does not get at home, so sometimes spends half a day here! I do think he%26#39;d charge extra to shovel snow though .... so fortunately our once-in-five-years snowfall is only maybe a half-inch or so deep.
