Big Island Revealed...get another area closed.

Today Paul Conroy heasd of the DLNR, acted to close the entire 26 square mile Kahaualea Natural Reserve to all entry .

This closure will be until furthur notice.. it will be reviewed in 2 years.

This follows the DNLR closing several beaches and snorkel areas on Maui on Monday... due to visitor abuse and mis-use.

The prime reason cited in both cases was the guidebook in the ';revealsd series.';...in the latest case ';Big Island Revealed'; was mentioned as being responsble for numerous rescues and searches that were prompted by ';Unprepared Visitors '; trying to visit new and old lava flows.

Signs will be posted and a $2500 fine applies to first violations

To reiretate...thats 2 state areas closed in a week..

What a great book........lets see what it gets closed or who it kills next !!

Big Island Revealed...get another area closed.

Gee, bummer. I always thought hot lava in perched ponds was a ';must see'; for me and the kids! PS If we go do we need closed-toe shoes? ;-)

Big Island Revealed...get another area closed.

Hounu..... you are total correct..and so insightful.

As a person of obvious letters, educated ,cosmopolitan and well traveled and in the possession of superiour common sence......none of these cautions applies to you

your are special.

Are you going to let some stupid coconut tree hugging local tell you what you can do!!! Id Bring a copy of your ticket to Hawaii and to show your exempt. and flash him your Revealed book and an IZ cd.....so he will know who he is dealing with.

Dont forget to give him the finger as he leaves.

Oh, in your picknick basket, Id add a coupla%26#39; rubber bags for the kiddies..if they have a littel problem., Maybe one for yourself and loved ones....

where is this at exactly?

LOL Honu. Maybe they could just drive their 4x4 out there? Alamo doesn%26#39;t say anything about lava driving do they?

premarsh...it is the entire state lands to the east of Volcano National Park.

JC.....That is correct...no lava driving restrictions, and come to think of it no mention of prohibited driving in rivers , ocean ,city parks, golf course paths ( paved) Private driveways ( ace Hardware sells a cheap bolt cutter for any locks) ........go for it....just use common sence which it sounds like you have.

You mean we can%26#39;t go there to BBQ over the lava anymore?!

Common sense ... and Revealed Book diehard fans in the same sentence, puzzles me ...

If you find out a book contains garbage, doesn%26#39;t common sense tell you to chuck it into the rubbish and chalk the expense down to having learned something? (yes, that%26#39;s what I did)

TT....of course you can, after all its 2200 degrees..what fun to BBQ and how stimulating it would be when the lava does a little methane explosion....

The wonderful smell of cooking steaks, mingeled with the tangy sulphur dioxide aroma and Hydrochloric tinged with just enough carbon monoxide to give you that rosy glow....

You will have plenty of wood too...because the silly gasses have killed the trees..

Just be safe... and tell me where I can find your car keys....

Maybe Dourghty will publish this special exciting activity...it sounds so special

And bring $2500 per person in case some nasty ranger is on a power trip....

Hey you residents want to keep all the good stuff for yourselves--I spend a lot on my vacation and I don%26#39;t go to those boring tourist trap places, I deserve the best and most realistic experiences for me and the little ones!!! After all, the youngest has been walking for a year now, don%26#39;t try to tell me she can%26#39;t walk across a%26#39;a!!!

I read on the internet that when those perched ponds start to empty, there is a great place to go for a good campfire and weenie roast, what better way to end the day?

You don%26#39;t need a perched lava pond. Just head down to the ocean and jump in... it%26#39;s like your own natural jacuzzi. Plus you can set up your stuff on one of those nifty benches. There%26#39;s even a guy who%26#39;ll drop you off in his boat.
