travel or settle down

hi,

myself and 3 friends are planning a trip to maui for the first 3 weeks of august, but we are in a bit of a delima.

we are deciding on wheather to just rent a car and travel town to town around the island finding cheap accomedation (hostels?) as we go, or, should we play it safe and just rent a property for the 3 weeks?

are fear in renting a property is we will be tied down to one area of the island, yet an even greater fear of ours is arriving and not being able to find cheap safe accomedation when traveling....

so what do u guys think?

any advice, recommendations or comments would be greatly appreciated. thanks

travel or settle down

Rent a place for the whole time near the center of the island like South Kihei or Ma%26#39;alaea. Island is not that big. If you want to rent a place in Hana for a night or two, it would give you more time to explore there but don%26#39;t plan on finding places as you go.

travel or settle down

first i think you should have a car

why not make arrangements to stay at 3 different properties at different parts of the island and make each place your home base for a week

If you are able to go for 3 weeks I would definitely make arrangements to get a car. I would also make arrangements to stay in different parts of the island during your trip before you left.

If I were going for 3 weeks I would probably break it up like this.

7-10 days in West Maui

5-7 days in South Maui

5 days in Hana (this may be too much for some, but if you%26#39;re looking to truly relax this would be awesome) I%26#39;d probably do this in the middle of the trip.

I may not have understood you but it sounds like you think you can just rent a place upon arrival. It is best to arrange it ahead of time. And I personally would love to do 3 areas which I actually did but wasn%26#39;t there nearly as long as you.

I would do one week at each________

1.South Maui

2.Kaanapali

3.Hana or North shore

If you have three weeks, you could even visit three different islands.

You should arrange lodgings before you leave home.

You will have to have your first nights accomodation booked because of immigration rules,(or atleast have an address you are pretending to be staying at!) unless of course your first night is in LA or San Fran or something on the way.

I would rent somewhere before you get there for the whole time definitely. But just stay in a couple of different places. I would suggest maybe half the time in Kihei and half the time in Lahaina or Kaanapali.

Or maybe ten days in Kihei, few days in lahaina, couple of days in Hana. Just depends what type of activities you are into.

Condos are cheap to rent, we rent really nice ones in Kihei for $90 a night. And whilst the dollar is weak its a good time to book.

thanks for all the advice, i think im going to go for either 1 and a half weeks in 2 locations or 3 locations over the 3 weeks with accomedation booked prior my stay.

thanks again and any further comments would be gladly welcomed.
