SuperFerry

Wondering if the the ferry is up and running and can a person make a round trip in 1 day from maui

SuperFerry

I%26#39;m also interested in this question. Read local news clippings (recd from friend visited in Dec) they were not running during mid-December due to rough waters and high winds. How is the weather in November in Hawaii? Is it rainy season? Planning to visit first week in November mostly Oahu and probably Maui for 1 day if SuperFerry is running.

November is getting into rainy season, but early November can be quite nice. As far as I know, the superferry will be running between O`ahu and Maui, but only time will tell.

Alas, the stupidferry is running. They have now added a second trip daily to Maui. Therefore you can spend one day in Maui. They have been having problems though. They have had to cancel due to weather. People got stranded with out their cars. Better and cheaper to take a plane.

the ferry is selling tickets now for $39.00 each way

The cheapest air is now $49 each way and only saves you about 1.5 hours.. since there is none of the security at airports. and yes you can do it.

Id take the ferry....its another way of seeing the islands from the a different perspective...you spent almost 12 hours in airplanes getting here..why not try something different... a mini cruise.!!!!

And seldom do they cancel...nor is it a rough ride.. some who complain get sea sick in a bath tub.

I cant wait till it comes to the Big Island next year.....

Hawaiidan

We are both on the same page, it WOULD be a nice way to see the islands from a different view, something you don%26#39;t see living in the prairies

ferry charges 39$ one way. Then add on a 33% fuel charge plus tax. If you want to sit in the lounge add another 20$. Hmmmm. not as inexpensive as it may look. Doesn%26#39;t cancel very often? They have not been running that long so it%26#39;s hard to tell. but just 2 wks ago they cancelled 4 out of 7 days. Then there were those who brought their cars. Ferry paid to fly people back to Oahu. Cars stayed here. My DH flys weekly between Oahu and Maui. Gets at HNL at 5:00pm for 5:40pm flight. Arrives Maui 6:15pm. Home in Kihei before 7:00pm. 2 hrs max. The channel running between Molokai and Maui can be rough in summer. In the winter months even the most hardy can get sick. I would love it if it would make it to the Big Island and stay there!!

You ask, can a person make a round trip in 1 day from Maui? Sure, if you want to go to Oahu and turn around and go right back. They added a second trip each day, great for those coming from Oahu to Maui, but it does nothing for Maui to Oahu travelers. Check the schedules on the ferry wesbite.

Today, the SuperFerry is transporting about 30 pieces of equipment that will be used to help clean up the debris left by the storms that hit Maui during December.

Funny...I don%26#39;t see anyone complaining about that.

Nor will you see anyone complaining when the next inevitable hurricanes or destructive storms hit the islands and one of the most readily available modes of transport for equipment and personnel ends up being the Superferry.

May I add, IMO it is about the stupidest schedule imaginable from a Maui POV. Any trip to Honolulu requires at least a one night stayover. I like to fly over in the morning, get my shopping or business on and be back home that night.
