shuttle vs jeep

Going to Lanai for 2 nights at end of 2 wk trip to Maui and Kauai. We are renting a jeep for one day to tour the island but was wondering if we should get the jeep for the other day or rely on the shuttle. It seems like the shuttle would be around $70 for 2 people vs $140 for the jeep. Does anyone know how frequent the shuttle runs and how late? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Aloha psgriswold,

It sounds like you will not be staying at one of the Four Seasons resorts since the shuttle is included in the baggage transfer charge for the resorts.

There are pros and cons for using the Jeep vs the shuttle. The Jeep certainly makes you completely independent of shuttle schedules and allows you to go anywhere on the island, on and off road. Since you will be only on the island for 2 days, and have a Jeep for one day already (and IMO having a Jeep for at least one day to explore the island is a must), the extra $70 to have the Jeep for a 2nd day seems like it is worth it. By having the Jeep for 2 days you could split up your activities and do some off road driving both days. Also, if the weather one day is not as good as the other, you will have more flexibility.

The one advantage of the shuttle is you have have a couple drinks with dinner and let the shuttle drive you home (if that is an issue with you). Now if you are staying the one of the FS resorts,I would probably get the Jeep for just one day and save the $140 (since the charges for the shuttle will already have been included in your bill).

The shuttle runs every 1/2 hour from about 7 am till 11 pm. BTW are you renting from Adventure Lana%26#39;i Ecocentre, which generally lets you take their more rugged Jeeps to more off road places?

Hope that answers your questions. Have a great visit to my favorite island!

Thanks so much for the helpful response. My husband works for the FS in Boston and we are getting a great deal so having the jeep for both days probably makes sense and I like having the freedom of going back and forth between the properties on my own schedule. We are going trough the ecocenter which I hear is much better than dollar. Thanks...

Super! Call ALE and ask them to leave the Jeep for you at the airport. Two days will go by fast on Lana%26#39;i. If you like to really get out there and explore, I think you will be pleased that you had the Jeep for both days. Aside from ALE%26#39;s selection of more rugged Jeeps, they also have a vast knowledge of the island and can help you make the most of your off-road adventure.

Another high point... you will not have to rely on the shuttle schedule when you head back to the airport for your return. ALE will allow you to leave the Jeep at the airport. This makes it very convenient to make the most of your last day on the island. Have a great time!
