Help on staying in Maui

We are heading to Maui this November for our first trip to Hawaii. We are travelling with another couple and therefore looking at a two bedroom condo somewhere. I am looking for some insight into the best condos for us to stay at. We are looking to enjoy the beach, walk, hike, relax, golf, be active when we feel like it and downright lazy when we don%26#39;t.

Go to the left of this page and click on hotels. You can scroll through them. There are many. We stayed at the Mahana and it is right on the beach. But there are many others. The Whaler has the best location right next to Whalers village where there are restaurants and stores and the beach is Kaanapali beach. The location can%26#39;t be beat.

Help on staying in Maui

Most visitors stay in West Maui (NW lobe) or South Maui.(SW coast). Hotel Hana is another option, far south.

One way to get an overview of the condo options is to look at the webpages of the agencies that rent them. Then you can rent from an agency or go to vrbo.com to rent one exact condo from an owner. (Agencies will usually only guarantee a generic, not a specific unit. Since all are individually owned, the quality can vary.)

In West Maui see Chase N Rainbows.

In South Maui: Ali%26#39;i Resorts, Condominium Rentals Hawaii, Maui Condo and Home.

West Maui has more %26#39;buzz%26#39; around Lahaina/Kaanapali, quieter to the north in Napili and Kapalua. One posh hotel, Ritz Carlton, in Kapalua.

South Maui%26#39;s posh hotels are in Wailea (4 or 5 of them); beautiful beaches Wailea/Makena. South Kihei (Kamaole area) has good beaches too. Less expensive areas are North Kihei and Maalea.

You will pay more to be oceanfront than to have oceanview. Few new complexes, so newly refurbished units are a must.

HHere is one other site to help you choose where to stay, location on Maui, South or West or othher areas and also help you choose specific condos.

I can reccomend Napilie Point Resort. All rooms face the bay with incredible views. There is very good snorkeling nearby at 3 or 4 locations. Golf is just up the street as well. Also, the Napili area is just a 20 min or so drive from Lahaina.

Babsmilton; You should try to get a map of Maui or maybe look on Google Earth so you know what condo is where and then decide (?) what you want to do.

This may give you an insight on what are to pick. I stayed in the Napili area twice and loved it but others love other areas. Personal preferences I guess.

If you stay off the beach it will cut your daily costs to approx. 1/2. Oceanfront costs big bucks, Oceanview less, ocean close less yet. Personal preference, personal wallet.

There%26#39;s webcams around too so you can see some of the areas but using your computer for research is the best start.

The worst thing about Maui is the Damned airport on the wrong side of the island. See, everything is not perfect in paradise. Bob!!!

How long is your trip?

If going for 5 nights might I suggest the Starwood package. If you are looking for first class and the best prices then I suggest trying to get in on the Starwood promotion package and just get two studio rooms for each of you. You can get a studio with kitchen and washer and dryer at the Westin Kaanapali Villas or a hotel room at the Sheraton Maui, both on Kaanapali beach.

If you aren%26#39;t opposed to spending an hour on a timeshare presentation or at the least rejecting a call asking you to attend you should definitly check it out.

You can get 5 nights, car rental and hotel voucher for $750. Since with another couple you would both need to get in on separate packages but could see if either property has availablity on the same nights, possibly even adjoining studios or something.

Both of these properties are close to or in the case of the Sheraton Maui across the street from Golf, and the Westin has a free shuttle. Both are directly on the beach with GREAT swimming pools and the best beds ever.

I know i%26#39;m very partial to Kaanapali and everyone has their own opinion but I feel you can%26#39;t go wrong at the Westin KOR villas!

A lot depends on your budget. To do it right (my opinion) would be to stay in Wailea. Good golf right in Wailea and Makena, the best beaches, shopping, restaurants and relaxation. big range in prices for condos from true ocean fronts to garden views on the golf courses. Wailea Beach Villas and Ho-olei are the top end and Grand champions and Ekolu are the lower end. Kihei is less expensive and you have a huge range in condos from the down, dirty and cheap to the nice and reasonably priced. Really want to make sure you see the actual condo you are booking in Kihei. Beach is busier and not a lot of places right on the beach. Kaanapali is busy, lots of hotels and the beach can get very windy in the afternoons. Golf is so so and I would go to Kapalua to golf if you were staying in Kaanapali. Napili and Kahana are nice but the beaches are small and you are not really close to much.
