We arrive in HNL at 7:45am and fly out to NYC at 9:30pm. I got a good deal at Waikiki Grand for the night, even though we are leaving in the evening, we just wanted somewhere to rest and put our bags.
Has anyone stayed at the Waikiki Grand and what are the chances of getting an early check-in?
Also, we are flying Continental to NYC. Can you confirm that we do not have to go through customs again and what time we need to check in for flights to the mainland.

I never have stayed at the Grand, but I would email the hotel %26amp; request it and see what they say. Even if they can not check you in really early you can always drop your bags with the bellman and go to the beach, go to a restaurant on the water for breakfast and relax or find a diversion until the room is ready.
You will not have to clear customs anyplace else on domestics flights.
If you have your computer with you you can check in from the hotel and print boarding passes there. The security check in is pretty efficient at Honolulu or has been when I am there. I suspect the red-eye is a slow time, but I would allow 1 to 1 1/2 hours even if I have my boarding pass already.
